AP Research
AP Research is an interdisciplinary course that encourages students to demonstrate critical thinking and academic research skills on a topic of the student’s choosing. Students taking this course will be exposed to research methodology and statistical analysis during their literature reviews. Additionally, many students’ topics lead them towards gathering data. The collection, analysis and interpretation of data is an area many students struggle. I have a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics and have taught AP Statistics for 20 years with 5 of those as a block course with AP Research. Many students will find they need additional assistance to successfully complete their research paper.
I am available to help students through the process of completing their research paper. In these sessions students will first walk me through their research topic. Then we can work on aspects such as the most meaningful way to gather their data, how to analyze their data and how to incorporate their analysis into their paper.
As the saying goes, “you can’t fix by analysis what you bungled by design.” For this reason, I strongly encourage any student wanting help on their analysis to first meet with me to ensure the data collection process allows for meaningful analysis.
During meetings covering data analysis, I can run the analysis on my end as I explain to students the process. I will provide graphical and statistical outputs for the students to use in their paper. Often times, students will not have access to the same statistical software that I use making these meeting extremely useful.
